HCDSH Celebrates World Environment Day with 'Waste to Wonder' Competition and Plantation Drive
HAZARIBAG: The Hazaribag College of Dental Sciences and Hospital (HCDSH) vibrantly celebrated World Environment Day on June 5th, 2026, combining environmental advocacy with student creativity. Organized by the institution to foster eco-consciousness among future dental professionals, the event featured a unique "Best Out of Waste" competition alongside a campus-wide plantation drive.The highlight of the day was the creative contest themed "Waste to Wonder: Creativity for a Greener Tomorrow," organized specifically for BDS second-year students. The young dental students traded their clinical instruments for recyclable materials, transforming everyday waste products into stunning, innovative, and functional art pieces and utility models.
The event was graced by the college leadership. Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary, Dr. Praveen Srinivas, strongly encouraged the students to take proactive, personal initiatives in their daily lives to protect the planet. He spent time interacting with the participants and highly appreciated the ingenuity behind the "Waste to Wonder" projects, noting that sustainability is a mindset that should extend into all professions, including dentistry.Vice Principal Prof. Dr. Ankur Bhargava also addressed the gathering, urging the youth to commit themselves to saving the environment for future generations. Following the exhibition, the dignitaries and students moved to the college grounds for a plantation program. Numerous saplings were planted across the campus to expand the institution's green cover and emphasize the collective responsibility of restoring nature.
Prof. Dr. Saumya Verma lauded the remarkable efforts and dedication put forward by the BDS second-year batch. He concluded the formal ceremony by distributing prizes to the winners of the competition, praising the high standard of innovation displayed. The successful execution of the entire event was spearheaded by Dr. Ritu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, who served as the event organizer. The participating students expressed their gratitude to both the college management and the organizing team for providing a platform to showcase their artistic talents toward a meaningful cause. The event concluded on a high note, with everyone present taking a silent pledge to foster a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
